Walden vs Ron Paul

It is often said around these parts (that would be the signs as you enter the valley) that this is "Ron Paul Country". Well since this is not Texas and has no resemblance to the Gulf Coast it must be his political lean. So this must be Libertarian country.

Just for the sake of argument I will mention that without government the natural resource based economy here would have gone bust many decades ago since this county like many others are Federal Government Welfare zones. In other words this county gets far more money from the Federal and State Governments that is generated in fees and taxes by the citizens of the county.

Now I think many of the tenets of libertarianism are very worthy. Personal Freedom, upholding the constitution and staying out of foreign entanglements would be high on my list. But as is often the case most folks here have no tolerance for the details of the argument.

So what does this have to do with Walden, Oregon Congressman from the 2nd district? It just might be the fact that Walden votes with Ron Paul less than any other republican congressman. Could it be that Walden really has no ideology other than what is best for Walden? Probably. Walden votes with the republican leadership. Follows the obstruction at any cost political philosophy currently in vogue in DC. He had no problem voting to spend trillions of tax dollars when the Republicans lost their way/minds during the first 8 years of the decade.

But now he is willing to take credit for stimulus spending in Oregon that he voted against. This lack of integrity knows no bounds. He rails rightly against the likes of Representative Rangel for probable tax evasion, but where was this righteousness against Tom DeLay, or Foley. Walden recently stated that he could do more for Oregon in DC than Salem. I think it is more an addiction to Washington money and the fact that the Governor gets far less money than a congressman. What good can a republican do in congress for Oregon when the Democrats are in power?

Hopefully someone with personal integrity that does not want to be "congressman for life" will run against greg in the primary. Oregon's 2nd District deserves better than Walden.
