Life in the Rural West

What is one to do...

I live in the only county in the U.S. that voted to be a U.N. (United Nations)Free Zone.  This means that anything UN related is forbidden in our County.  Some would say it is a cry for liberty, but I see it more as a fear  of black helicopters and one world government.  The proponents seem more like the "pull my finger" crowd and yet there is a underlying threat to the life of those who speak against them.  Some have found this out the hard way.  Threats have been made, wells poisoned and intimidation is the norm.  Local law enforcement "seems" powerless to stop  these people.  Even writing these words is a bit dangerous.

This is a place where a local national chain resturant had a money box for a UN related children's charity.  Someone called 911 about it and the box is no longer there.  Recently one of the proponets of this and other anti government activities actually insinuated that perhaps armed rebellion was needed to "save us" in a letter to the editor.

Now here comes one of the problems of real moderates...  I can see and understand their point of view.  I see where they are coming from.   I see that they truly feel  and believe that everyone except them has lost their way.

This is how dumb I am.  Even though Fox news tells me every day what the truth is I see both sides of the argument and do not agree with either side.  In the interest of sharing this great republic I choose to see a way that includes everyone.  But I cannot stand the hate that is spewed by their leaders,  their desire to choose violence or their refusal to allow another point of view.

When I talk with these folks about day to day things I truly like them.  So what is one to do...
